The rear valve cover gasket, an often-overlooked component in an engine's intricate machinery, plays a pivotal role in ensuring optimal performance and longevity. This small but crucial element seals the connection between the engine block and the valve cover, safeguarding essential lubricants and preventing oil leaks. If you use accessories such as installation tools or grease containers, it is just as important to ensure they are taken care of. A good practice is to cover grease containers with a sealable lid when not in use. In doing so, you reduce the risk of dirt contaminating the grease and, subsequently, your oil seal.
There is a British Standard laid down for the control of synthetic rubbers. BS 3574 (1989) helps to determine shelf life – for instance, Nitrile (NBR) and Polyacrylic (ACM) are Group ‘B’ rubbers and have a 7-year life, whilst Silicone (VMQ) and Fluoroelastomers (Viton®) are Group ‘C’ rubbers and have a 10-year shelf life. PTFE and Leather do not come into this category but like the others should be kept in the original packing for as long as possible away from direct light, dust, and humidity. Ozone, which can also be produced by battery-driven forklift trucks has a very bad effect on synthetic rubbers. Finally, protect the sealing lip – DO NOT hang the seals on nails, wire etc.
Moreover, a reliable supplier ensures consistent quality through rigorous testing and quality control processes

An oil seal normally consists of three basic components: the sealing element, the metal case and the spring. The purpose of the sealing element is to stop the fluid from leaking between the shaft and housing. The metal case will give rigidity and strength to the seal while it is being held in the bore or recessed groove. The garter spring ensures constant pressure and maintains the radial force to the shaft, flattening the sealing edge to a defined width. The garter spring maintains the radial force exerted by the sealing lip around the shaft surface. All materials must be selected depending on the environment in which the oil seal will function.
Refit the distributor, ensuring that the rotor arm is exactly in line with the first mark. If not, withdraw the distributor and try again.
In the realm of mechanical engineering, precision and reliability are paramount. One such component that plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of machinery is the hub oil seal. This critical device, often overlooked yet absolutely essential, serves as a barrier between the dynamic and static parts of a system, preventing the leakage of fluids and the ingress of contaminants. In this blog, we attempt to highlight what are Oil Seals and the various Rotary Shaft Seals including Mechanical Face Seals, Water Pump Seals, Gland Packings, and V-Seals that are readily available.
One common size of oil seal is 14x24x6, which refers to the dimensions of the seal in millimeters – 14mm inside diameter, 24mm outside diameter, and 6mm thickness. This particular size is often used in smaller applications, such as electric motors or small pumps.
